INSTRUCTOR GETS KICKS IN CLASSROOM AND IN RING

Not only does Mark Pelc teach kickboxing at North campus, but he also defends his undefeated 3-0 record in the upcoming Urban Rumble Championship IV, May 23 at the Pasadena Convention Center.

Urban Rumble Championship IV demonstrates competition similar to boxing matches. Instead of throwing punches, fighters like Pelc can kick, knee, elbow, choke and pin their opponents to the ground.

Not to confuse this sort of fighting with that seen on World Wrestling Entertainment, this extreme sport is called Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

MMA incorporates a mixture of martial arts including boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The objective of an MMA fight is to beat the opponent using the least amount of time and the most efficient techniques.
